700 000 files (part 2)

You can read part 1 here

I've been tracking my file counts for some weeks now and it's been interesting. It nicely complements my efforts to reduce my internet usage, as delving into my folders to see if I find something I'd like to engage with makes a nice alternative to seeking new content online.

I'm rediscovering some nice stuff, and deleting a lot more.

Tracking the numbers is starting to give me a sense of which folders are growing vs diminishing, and which ones I don't engage much with. I feel like I have a grasp on my digital files that I lacked before. It all feels a lot more tangible than it used to. As an organized type, I'm enjoying that.

This grasp is also changing how I engage with the content I have. When I tried to read ebooks that weren't meeting my expectations I've been able to abandon and delete them a lot sooner than I used to, because I'm so much more aware of how many others I have.

It's going to be interesting to see the effects of this project down the line.
